For Your Consideration

Today the act of consideration is a lost art that I believe has far reaching affects on our community and on our character in general. Consideration is fed by empathy and it is always hungry. In a nut shell I'm asking that all of us think about how our actions contribute or hinder the prosperity of others. We are all connected whether you choose to acknowledge that fact or not and as such how we treat others ultimately comes back around to us eventually.

Don't Take It Personally

When I reached the second agreement in Don Miguel Ruiz's "The Four Agreements", it changed my life profoundly. In it he says that taking things personally is the maximum expression of selfishness because you make the assumption that everything is about you. Think about that  for a moment. You take it personally when that guy in the Honda Accord cuts you off on the highway. Do you really believe that he got up that morning with the sole intent of cutting you off at that very moment? You take it personally when the public transit bus is running behind. Do you really believe that the driver fell behind just to get the satisfaction of making you late for work? One of your coworkers makes a sarcastic remark about your new haircut. Do you really believe that what they are saying about you is true? Do you really believe that your choice in hairstyles is that important to his or her life? I'm sorry to tell you this but this world is not that concerned with the minutia of your day to day life. Get over yourself and recognize that truth. Your selfishness is robbing you of the joy that is right before your eyes. When I  acknowledged that truth for  myself it set me free. I was freed from the anger that I allowed to fester in my heart, for myself and for my fellow brothers and  sisters.

Who Are You?

I don't let anyone tell me how I should live, what I should be and for how long I should be it. I refuse to take responsibility for someone's version of  me that makes them feel comfortable. Life is hard and I can't see how breaking myself to live up to other's expectations can bring me happiness. I am what I am. I am no better than you. I'm just trying to do the best that I can to live free, live with joy and contribute positively to my fellow brothers and sisters. The question I have for all of you is, "Who are you?"

Back to Back

Who has the strength and the courage to stand back to back with me in the gladiatorial arena and share the hits, share the cuts, spill the same blood and shed the same tears. If you will not stand by my side then you will not be counted as a friend you will not be counted as family and your battles will be fought without the aid of my strength.

I'm Scared, why aren't you?

I'm not frightened by the agenda of big business and our US government to cater to their prosperity over the well being of the American citizen, what truly scares me is that with relevant information so accessible to the United States population, that we are incapable of overcoming our ignorance and essentially allowing these entities to continue to trade our prosperity for theirs.

Priming Your Mind

Have you ever been invited to a party and every single day leading up to the party you were filled with dread? Each day you'd  say things to yourself like, " I'm not going to know anyone there" or " I have absolutely nothing to wear." Everyday your mind is filled with fear and self-doubt until finally the day comes and just as you predicted you had the worst time in the history of worst times since the dawn of man. This is the power of mental priming. Of course this scenario only highlights the dark side of the force but to be honest that form of mental priming happens so often you'd think the Sith were making a comeback. Instead, you could have just as well said to yourself, " I love having the opportunity to meet new people" and " This will be a great excuse to hit the mall and search for a  new outfit." Instead of dread your mind could have been filled with all of the possibilities. Yes it is  true that the party could be a bust but isn't it also true that you could have the best time of your life and meet the person of your dreams? Truth is justice and justice is balance. I guarantee you don't know the future and  assuming the worst just isn't justified. It lacks balance. The next time you have the opportunity to experience something new take the opportunity to  explore all of the possibilities both negative and positive. And then I recommend dwelling on the positive while being prepared for the negative. More often than not you will end up creating the possibility for light side of the force to prevail over the dark.
